We work with Charities and Partners who help us understand the societal issues relevant to our businesses. This includes in-depth training by charities to our call centres employees on how to deal with critical illness claims.

We provide expertise and assistance for community projects, which amounted to the equivalent of 1250 days with a commercial value as a gift in kind. (893days: 2010)

We have actively invested employees in Skills based volunteering including our Money Money Money programme, mentoring and school governors. Previous years included the cost of volunteering, this is now included in the funding of community projects. Value at £21 an hour.

We fund community projects around our main locations and with our Intermediaries in the UK and 406 (560: 2010) charities and non for profit organisation have benefited in this way which our employees and intermediaries got involved nominating or supporting.

We encourage the development of corporate governance skills and 62 schools (52: 2010) receive support from our employees acting as school governors.

Of this total, $521,693 was given as matching contributions to our Annual Charity Drive. This means the total raised for the campaign (company match and employee contributions) totalled: $1,045,010. The proceeds of the campaign benefited over 250 charities. While almost all of our 433 employees participated in some way 206 made specific donations to one or more of these charities.
Corporate donations were made throughout the year, including $3,000 to the American Heart Association, $2,500 to the American Cancer Society and a total of $6,000 to the hospital and fire department in Frederick Maryland, the home of our Corporate headquarters in the US. They have committed to a 5-year total contribution to the hospital (Frederick Memorial Hospital) of $25,000.
Employees participated in 4 additional activities benefiting non-profit organizations- Relay for Life (benefiting the American Cancer Society), Lee National Denim Day (benefiting Women's Cancer Programs), Heartly House Holiday Gift drive (a home for victims and survivors of domestic violence) and Back to school supply drive. The total raised for these activities was just over $5,000.

They supported an initiative through the association of insurers, who has developed a game (Fix your risk) by which children learn about risks and ensure. A number of employees of L&GN have volunteered to teach in school to children (age 10-12) about risks and risk hedging. The game Fix your risk was one of the tools they used.

4900 euros given in 2011 for an NGO taking care of sick children. This amount includes the fees paid for advertising in their newspaper. Employees did not get involved.
