Case study: Long-term health and climate change.

We continue to work with ClimateWise to link climate change and long-term health risks. In 2011 we were part of a programme led by Dr Paul Wilkinson, who leads the Environmental Epidemiology team at the London School of Hygiene and Tropical Medicine.

He is a world expert on the health impacts of extreme weather and has been appointed to analyse whether extreme weather is making a noticeable impact on claims. Using data from the Continuous Mortality Investigation (CMI) he and his team have been investigating whether it’s possible to quantify the temporal variation in protection insurance claims and their association with seasonal and day-to-day variation in weather conditions, including extreme weather events.
